It is also sometimes used as a dipping sauce for potatoes and corn, and seafood, so you’ve got plenty of choices once you have mastered the sauce.
Now that we have covered what Blove sauce is, let’s move onto the ingredients list and how to make this tasty sauce!

How to make Blove sauce
Now that we have gathered all the ingredients let's start cooking! To start, take a large mixing bowl and combine all the seasoning ingredients. Set this to one side for now.
You can chop it finely if you don’t have a blender to hand; just ensure the chunks are relatively even.
Turn the heat up to medium and cook for roughly 30 seconds. Stir constantly during this time again to avoid any veg or butter burning.
After 30 seconds, add the vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chicken broth, and salt to the mixture.
You can also add crushed pepper flakes, ginger, tabasco sauce, and lemon juice if you wish, but these ingredients are optional.
Stir it occasionally until your mixture is well mixed. You want it all to come together as one sauce and have all the spices blended.
Once combined, remove the sauce from the heat and leave it to cool down. Serve and enjoy, or store in an airtight container for use later!
Tip: without the additional ingredients we mentioned earlier, the sauce is quite spicy. We recommend tasting the sauce before adding these ingredients.
If it's spicy enough for you, exclude the additional ingredients. If not, add them in! You can always take some of the heat away with another spoon of sugar, or check out our variations below!
Can I change the sauce recipe?
As we mentioned briefly earlier, there are a few variations of Blove sauce that you can try. These variations all feature a slight taste change that often enhances the sauce or will complement flavors in the rest of your meal nicely.
You can add almost anything to Blove sauce if you wanted to, but these are a few of our favorites!
Beer is a classic addition to a seafood boil! It creates a powerful and flavorful sauce depending on the beer you choose. Opt for citrus or fruity beer for a great flavor, and avoid any bitter beers.
Korean red paste
Korean red paste, or Gochujang, is a staple condiment in Korean cuisine. It's spicy and similar to Sriracha sauce as it's made from chilis!
You can add the sauce to the recipe directly or incorporate it as a dipping sauce if you like spice; the choice is yours!
Another variation for spice lovers is to add chili oil to the recipe! The oiliness melts with the texture of the butter to create a decadent dish that's full of flavor!
Although there is already brown sugar in this recipe, adding honey balances out the different spices in the sauce for some sweetness.
It's a common addition to the sauce, but be careful not to add too much. You still want a spicy sauce after all!
How can I use Blove sauce?
Blove’s sauce has many fantastic uses; it’s a versatile sauce with multiple uses! To use it traditionally, use the sauce as a dip with boiled seafood.
You can also pop some sauce in oven bags with the seafood and use the sauce as a boiling liquid!
Other users have turned the sauce into the base for a seafood pasta or even dipped vegetables in it!
The sauce is essentially a spiced butter sauce, meaning you can swap it in a recipe that requires a similar sauce.
The choice is yours; why not go crazy and swap out your peppercorn sauce for some Blove sauce on your steak?
What does Blove sauce taste like?
Now, you might have gotten this far in and been wondering, what does that taste like? Well, the sauce is incredibly rich and quite spicy!
You can adjust the spices to suit your tastes; whether you make it milder or spicier, you can still expect lots of great-tasting flavors.
How long does homemade Blove sauce last?
Providing you store the sauce in an airtight container, the seafood sauce will last for two weeks. To ensure its freshness, it's best to make the spice mixture ahead of time and add the fresh ingredients when it's time to enjoy!
Be sure to store your Blove sauce in the refrigerator during this time to ensure it stays fresh and safe for you to eat!
If you have already added fish to the sauce, we recommend consuming it within two days.
This is because fish, especially fresh fish, does not stay fresh for that long! You don’t want to eat gone off fish and make yourself unwell, do you?
Can I freeze Blove sauce?
Yes, you can freeze Blove sauce! The sauce should last for up to three months when placed in the freezer, giving you plenty of opportunities to enjoy the delicious fish sauce!
It's best to freeze the sauce as is without any seafood or other ingredients added to it.
Extra ingredients might not last as long as the sauce itself or could cause moisture to form when it freezes or thaws.
Ensure you store the sauce in a freezer-safe Ziploc bag or container.
Ideally, you want something airtight to prevent ice crystals or air from getting into the sauce and impacting its texture.
Often, frozen sauces can develop a slightly grainy texture. This could happen with your Blove sauce and is something to be aware of. It shouldn’t impact the taste, but the texture can be a little off-putting for some people.
Blending the sauce or using a hand whisk can remove the texture changes and leaves you with a tasty sauce that's ready to enjoy again!
To defrost your sauce, place it in the refrigerator overnight. Then you can enjoy the sauce cold or heat it in a pan if you wish, the choice is yours!
You can even add more spices to the mix if you wish once it's defrosted!
Freezing Blove sauce has been a popular choice with those that purchased the seasoning mix.
They found that the mix was too much for one sauce, so they froze some for another day. Perfect for when you want to do some batch cooking!
